How the math works
- Prices are assumed to rise by the same rate every year, and each year's rise builds on the one before.
- Buying power is the amount divided by how much prices grew. Future cost is the amount multiplied by it.
- Real inflation changes from year to year, and prices of different things rise at different speeds.
